Loud cheering and clapping greeted the boxers as they strode and shuffled to the ring at Box Club Wedel outside Hamburg for the 1st Girls Cup. Rap music, reggae and Michael Jackson (!) was the walk in music of choice for the girls and young women from all over Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Rosalia Skowron beat Annika Lex in a well fought 3x 2 minute bout.
Skowron dominated the centre of the ring from the starting bell, holding the taller Lex off with a strong jab. Lex managed to push Skowron to the ropes in the first round and caught her with a left jab making Skowron tighten up her defense.
After a short break in the corner round two continued with dynamic distance boxing with the two combattants exchanging jabs and Lex still kept out of the tactically superioir centre of the ring position. Going into the third round the Boxgirls fanclub were going nuts sensing a win for Skowron who delivered with style winning the fight unanimously on points.
The next day Rosalia had a unscored sparring since her official opponent from Spandau decided not to turn up (?). We look forward to the rematch - perhaps in Ostbahnhof, Berlin hosted by Stahl Schoenweide April 18-19.
Congrats Rosalia and everyone who helped make this fight happen.
